ACERCA DE / About Us

espacio_ciudad

city_space
In the confusing reality with which present days draw our daily activity almost any statement seems reckless considering the uncertainty of the territory in which our society enters, permanently sailing on uncertainties and cancellations of the known values. But in the middle of this confusion of ideas and solutions for the unpredictable future, life in society emerge as a certain refuge. The association with others has always provided the best framework in front of the difficulties. The city has been with no doubt the best option for protection and opportunities and will, over the years to come, again and more strongly, the place of the best and most powerful manifestation of human genius and ability. But the city we know is probably far from the city we need. In fact, the current crisis shows that almost everything in our environment is unsuitable for the future that awaits us, and is the result of a collective and comfortable attitude which capacity of criticism seems to be absent, giving way to an indulgent hedonism. Therefore, the first condition of any process that seeks to design alternatives for the future is deeply questioning what exists and, in the city, such questioning must be addressed to an hypercomplex reality -synthesis of all our activities and expressions- in which the change will be evident in a much more radical way. So we searched the name "space_city" for the site of our work, because more than the closed formula involved under the name of "city", this site is an area that we see as an open space. Characterized by the built environment, but necessarily fully open to a global change in which social relations, the policy linkages, the mechanisms of production, the supply systems, the formulas for the use of the natural environment and even how to address the construction of such a site, make it a space for action and experimentation.

mediterranean
The closed Mediterranean area has allowed the generation of an area of relationships among cultures, where over the centuries exchanges have occurred, resulting in political, geographical, social and cultural entities with a clear identity from a global perspective. These identities are very precisely expressed through the geopolitical organization of space, but viewed as a whole or all dealt with in detail, show a common identity that come from shared stratification of experiences and permanent transit between the various banks. This transit is part of the nature of the Mediterranean area, whose content, therefore, could be called transitive, a place for the transit of peoples who colonized and dominated it, and where trading and cultural transit between its banks prevailed. A space, also, of transit articulation between Asia (Anatolia and Middle East) and America (Iberia). The coexistence of different cultures has also configured it as a place of conflict, a name that should be collected not only in its negative sense, but in its most experimental one, as a space for discussion and recognition of the differences as well as the links. It is also the site where all scales of human activity, and therefore the architecture, are manifested. Since the habitats more closely linked to its exceptional natural environment to the most sophisticated urban expressions, a product of the richness stored. Since the fascinating vernacular structures, to the autochthonous construction procedures that characterize the landscape and its cities. Since the products of profound historical condition, to the committed experiences on current technological frontiers. But it is also, today, where the mutation from a universal culture -the immediate past- into a new one -that the current paradigm shift allows us to glimpse already- must be materialized. In this area we will try to understand that precise, complex and multifaceted reality, to know the phenomena of ongoing transformation, cataloging the construction projects of the new space_city, and proposing solutions for places that may have not appropriate responses. To do this we will use a synthetic instrumentation of architectural resources, urban science and disciplines that serve the territory and the landscape.
